Trails Update: August 2, 2025

still a wild ride!

Mom used to make us wait 2 hours after eating before we could go swimming. The reasoning behind it had something to do with cramping. In that same line of thinking, I recommend waiting 3 days after a rain storm before riding Gargamel, also because of cramping (?).That’s why the trail crew are working up there now… the “blue powerups” are keeping our electrolytes and anti-oxidants fully charged which should make the commute down “cramp free”. Plus, the relentless roots need time to dry!  We’ve finished fully decking the uphill skinny and we’ve started our way down enhancing catch berms and re-opened the first steep chute that had been obliterated by a large fallen tree. We have choked that canyon section to just 2 lines (from 4-5). All along the trail, we’re trying to return the tread back to its 2004 glory. Whoa! I just realized that we’ve been riding Tyler Moreland’s epic descent for over 20 years. It was included in the 2004 Samurai of Singletrack! Two decades of wear and tear have aged some features. The original towering bridge is long gone, replaced by a Ken Melamed armoured chute. This week we replaced another rotten wood feature with a permanent rock structure. We’re working down Gargamel’s “looser” sections which is making me rethink my safety idiom about letting the trail dry up after rain…

The trail crew will spend more time on vegetation control in the coming weeks so please report your “jungle experience” rides through Trailforks. Including photos of the overgrown sections would help us prioritize where to dispatch the tools.

See you on the Trails!
