Trails Update: July 25, 2025

As I’ve mentioned here before: I just can’t walk away from a project when it’s just “good enough” (to open). Therefore, despite the trail being officially open for the season, we headed up for one more day to work on the alpine section of Lord of the Squirrels. It was fun to meet some stoked riders and an army of runners. After sorting out some puddles and a rock ramp, the crew made the most painful (annoying) commute: testing their work with heavy packs lugging all the tools down to lower elevation.

Some of you may have recognized photos from the Jane Lakes area in last week’s report… I inspected the trails there and a few projects jumped up the priority list. Downed trees were cleared and the Jake South hiking route was brushed out. We also benched and supported 7 spots in the final climb up from Jane North where roots were beginning to show signs of wear. We met no humans in this remote area but had to compete with a family of grouse for some of the tasty berries!

Why not spread the love? We also visited Rainbow Mountain to work on Gargamel this week! First, we needed to repair the uphill skinny log that had been twisting out of level. Supporting braces were installed and a more direct (wider) approach ramp was built. On site we found ample supplies (and mosquitoes!) to make decking for the entire feature. We’re going to finish this project next week with a new off ramp before moving on to tread repairs throughout Gargamel’s enchanting upper forest.

See you on the Trails!
