Trails
WORCA is proud of its comprehensive and successful trail maintenance program, to which we devote significant energy and resources. The Whistler area is home to an extensive and world-renowned network of mountain bike trails, ranging from smooth gravel to challenging steep descents. The trails are a fantastic resource for local members and a growing mountain bike tourism industry. Without ongoing maintenance, repairs and protection we risk losing this incredible amenity to erosion, degradation and in some cases competing land use.
Each year we set priorities and assign funding to a range of trail projects, which are carried out by a combination of contract trail builders and tireless, enthusiastic community volunteers. Our trail budget is allocated to contractor wages, tools and equipment, trail signage, and a few small perks for volunteers.
Creating durable and ecologically sensitive trails is a key focus of our maintenance program. WORCA works with local government and other NGOs such as AWARE, the Whistler Fisheries Stewardship Group, the Whistler Naturalists and IMBA to ensure that our contractors and volunteers perform their work to the highest environmental standards.
Trails Days are on Saturday mornings this season. We usually go for 3-4 hours and bang off of a project. Details on upcoming events will be listed in our member newsletters, our calendar of events and the Pique News Magazine. If, Saturday does not work for you, no problem! Contact Jerome via our online contact form and you can join the local WORCA trail builder during the week.
