WORCAPALOOZA!
Celebrate WORCA’s 20th Anniversary with a fun, fair-styled day of biking events!
Saturday, August 29th
Base II
3pm-10pm
This event is FREE to attend and is open to everyone in Whistler who has a bike! You don’t need to be a WORCA member to come out and see what the fun is about but you do need a membership to participate in any of our ‘in the saddle’ events. The day is going to be a fun, laid back celebration of everything on two wheels. Bring your bike, your helmet (for blingification), a change of clothes and be ready for good times.
The Four Quacks:
Registration is from 3-4pm for the following events. There is no cost to compete but you must be a WORCA member to ride. Register for all four quacks and battle it out for the title of “Quack of all Trades”!
Darkwing Avid Chainless DH Race
Darkwing Avid Chainless Results
At 4:15, Tyler Morland and his team are putting together a Chainless DH down Blackcomb. The course will be fun and cruisey but speed will be tough to maintain! The race will be limited to 100 riders all of whom will receive a brand spankin’ new chain upon completion! Great prizes for the winners!
Daffy Hill Climb
At about 5pm, those who are feeling up to the task will take their turn trying to climb their mountain bike up Blackcomb Mountain! A tight track will be set and the winner will get bragging rights (and possibly a free beer!).
Donald Celebration Criterium
It’s not a Toonie but it might feel like one. At 6pm, take a tour around the Beer Garden and through the lower Blackcomb Park and then do it again…and again!
Mighty Trackstand Competition
This event will be running all afternoon. Anyone who can make it past 10 minutes is entered into the track stand stand-off/jousting final to take place later in the evening! Bring your helmet and pads!
Feature Event:
WORCA 20th Anniversary Documentary Film Premiere
Watch the trailer here
At 7:00pm we will be showing the 20th Anniversary Documentary that has been in the making for an entire year. With footage from many WORCA events including trail building days, Toonie Rides, Phat Wednesday and even the last Chateau (snif), the film will tell the story of WORCA directly from the guys that made it all happen 20 years ago. Presentations and general socializing will take place after the movie!
Just for Kids!
Kids Trials Park
Bring your bike and test your skills on our pint-sized trials park!
Helmet Painting
Carey & Paulo Lopes will be on site blinging up helmets for the kids (free for kids, by donation for adults)
Orkids
Encourage….explore…ignite through creativity! Orkids will be available between 5-7pm. Drop your kids off at the craft tent and free yourself up to take a turn in the criterium or socialize in the beer garden!
All afternoon:
Dunk Tank
A fundraiser for WORCA’s trail building program. We have a number of Whistler personalities confirmed for the dunk tank including:
* All of the WORCA Board
* Munro (c’mon kids, bring your pitcher’s arm!)
* Ken Melamed
* Tom Thompson
* Chris Quinlan
* Grant Lamont
* Craig Kozman
Beware, anyone may be called upon so bring a dry shirt and change of shorts just in case!
Entertainment
Brother Twang will be taking the stage at 5pm and will be preceded by various WORCA talents on their guitars and with their turntables! Interested in taking a turn? Bring your own instruments or needles and records.
Food and Beverage
We’ll have burgers hot off the grill as of 4pm. Splitz is providing the burgers and Granville Island Brewing will be providing refreshments in our Beer Garden. Lucia Gelato will also be on hand serving up some yummy desert! This is not a Toonie event so you will have to pay for your food and bevies - remember to bring some cash! $6 Burgers and $4 beverages. Please help us keep our footprint small and bring your own plates and mugs. The beer garden will close down when the kegs run dry (or at 9pm, whichever comes first) but we’ll be keeping the party going into the evening down at Merlin’s!
What you need to know:
There is parking for 100 vehicles at Lot 6 but we encourage people to ride their bikes (of course), carpool and drive safe.
There will be no chairs so bring a blanket or something comfy to sit on.
After the Video Premier and presentations we encourage people to head down to Merlin’s for an unofficial after party!
Still looking for Volunteers!
As with everything WORCA organizes, nothing gets done without our awesome volunteers. Our list for the VIP Celebration this year is slowly growing but this will be one of your final opportunities to get in on the VIP Volly Action. If you are able to commit 3 hours of volunteer time you will get your name on ‘the list’ and we’ll take care of your dinner. If you’re only available for a little while we’ll still need people on course marshaling our events and your help would be greatly appreciated! Please sign up on our online contact form.
