July 28th PhaSt Wednesday Results
Last week we returned to the Kokanee PhaSt Wednesday series with a tough course of Joyride, switching over to Schleyer at the rock garden to Lower Canadian Open. This was the most difficult course we have had this season and it showed with 9 of the 120 competitors not making it to the finish. Not to worry, there were no major injuries though. Once again, the fastest man of the night was Tyler Morland with a time of 2:40.21. at the top of the podium in the Masters category was Chris Dewar, a man not unfamiliar with this spot. Katrina Strand took top spot for the Females with a time of 3:25.48 and Ollie Gregory-Jones led the way in the Junior Male category. Once again all racing was celebrated with a cold Kokanee on the GLC patio.
This week we took the time to raise some funds for regular Phat Wednesday ripper Kari Mancer who suffered a broken back on July 25th while riding on Powder Mountain. All contributions will go towards the purchase of rehabilitation equipment (including a cruiser bike!). We held an auction selling off a set of Maxxis tires to Conrad Erickson for $150. A $50 gift certificate to the GLC went to Behrang Masouml for $90. And a 2nd $50 gift certificate to the GLC went to Dave Balluk with help from fellow Summer Gravity Camp boys for $105! All said, we raised $500 for Kari and hope she gets back on her bike soon.
Winning some of the draw prizes courtesy of our sponsors, Kokanee, WORCA, the GLC were
* Sram drive trains – Bart Brown and Zander Geddes
* Hayes Brakes – Jeff Liegh
* Maxxis tires – Kevin Bartkowski and Samuel Hardie
* Decline subscription – Ollie Gregory-Jones
* Race Face handle bars – Kris Atkinson
* and many other prizes from Race Face, Odi , Decline Magazine, Dakine, Garbanzo Bike and Bean, the GLC and Kokanee
We will be taking a break from Kokanee Phat and PhaSt Wednesdays as we head into Crankworx but with be back August 18th with our 5th Kokanee Phat Wednesday. Remember we are capping riders at 200 so get there early and if you didn’t race this week, get your WORCA membership online to make registration quicker. Course will be announced Tuesday August 17th. Registration will be same as always; the Garbanzo Bike and Bean patio @ 5 pm and race starting @ 6 pm and Awards and prizes at the GLC.

Pump Track Challenge Results
Sunday brought out 23 riders to the Whistler Bike Park Pump Track Challenge. This was an all ages event with riders ranging in age from 7 and up. Riders were given 1.5 hours to ride as many laps as they wanted. Each lap was timed and the goal was to better the fastest time of the day and their own personal best. After the allotted time, 5 bikers had broken the 15 second mark and moved on to the finals.
Nick Geddes was holding the fasted time of the day at 14:26 but decided to waive that time and start the finals with fresh times. The finalists were given 10 minutes to post the best time and after 4 runs each we came out with a tie of 14:41 between Dylan Wolsky and Nick Geddes. This forced a tie breaker in a winner takes all best of 3 runs ultimate final. The fist run went to Dylan but Nick took the next two and the title of Pump Track Champion. Nick also wins entry into the ladders at Crankworx’s fist Ultimate Pump Track Challenge.
In other Categories, Addison MacDonald led the Groms (13 and under) with a time of 15:98 and Zander Geddes took top spot in the Juniors (14-17) with a time of 15:11. Also winning a place in Crankworx, top female of the day was Rebecca McQueen with a time of 16:94.
Some of the draw prizes handed out at the awards at the GLC were a Sram drive train, Kali Helmets and t-shirts, Maxxis tires, Race Face handlebars and many other prizes from Odi, Dakine, Garbanzo Bike and Bean, the GLC and Kokanee.
