Trails Update: May 23, 2025

Short but Sweet

I had a memorable long weekend: after Whismas park laps, I headed to the Fraser Valley and Mount Seymour to sample some “new to me trails”. Leaving Whistler just as our trails emerge from winter slumber seems silly, but I always come home refreshed and inspired. I spotted some interesting carpentry,  and avant-garde water management solutions (?). Weekend stand out trails (that I can share here): Cambodia on Seymour,  Kerry’d Away on Vedder and Jolly Rancher on Bear Mountain for its unending supply of small drops.

We need to ease back into work after such an action packed long weekend, so 2 days of digging is all we schedule. A “short week” mindset gave the crew some extra boost in their boots heading up Pura Vida. We’re giving it a thorough refresh. Beyond our usual hole filling and armouring, we’re re-aligning the main track here and there to solve issues of tread widening and erosion. We’ve also begun benching a ride around to bypass another chute section which my clinometer confirmed was deep into the double black rating… that feature will remain in place as a more advanced option for thrill seekers and historians. I wonder which line the Back Forty racers will choose?

We skipped Tuesday trail night digging this past week but we get back into school night fun on May 27. WORCA members are welcome to join us for work near the bottom of Low Expectations in the Wedge Zone. Please sign up! This week’s event is sponsored by Big Mountain Adventures.

See you on the Trails!
