Trails Update: May 15, 2026
Back to the To-Do List
Last week, we were able to direct volunteers to projects already on our work plans for the season. Tuesday night diggers battled the rooty duff deep in their defensive zone and managed to clear the puck up ice. The trail crew took that long pass for a break-away, scoring the finishing touches on the 99’er ride-around. It rides great! Another project holding space was upgrading the “waterworks” on Dog Itch following last year’s enduro weekend - 2026 sign up and course is available here!. @RocDoc (Ken Melamed) and some keen Alpine Meadows residents had started on some repairs, then we joined in to help with some fresh woodwork and to properly connect the trail to Cat Scratch Fever. The connection piece continues in the style of Cat Scratch to make a worthwhile technical black rated descent that seamlessly continues down Mandatory, into Mel’s. Thanks again to Ken for nudging us to get’er done! While in that zone, I got to check out Howler Contracting’s fresh volunteer machine work on Fever Cat: What an upgrade! Sounds like Zander’s done there for now… with more work forthcoming. The plan is to continue blue-ifying the trail down to the towers!
Shovel ready project
The Wildfire rating climbing to HIGH forced us to swiftly pivot our volunteer trail night schedule… Moving the next event ahead to Sunday morning meant the trail crew didn’t have time to prepare our original flashback work plan… but RCRR was ready and waiting! We made Mom dig trail on Mother’s day (!) but Sarah and Ben provided “brunch” - Who doesn’t love some bubbly orange juice in the morning? Big Mountain Adventures sponsored the event and it was also an extra special day for frequent volunteers Zack and Terry, who were once again digging on their wedding anniversary! Congrats and Thanks! Proving once and for all that couples that dig together, stay together.
This RCRR project just keeps on giving as the outlet for short notice volunteer projects: The Whistler Secondary MTB team joined us to dig on Monday. When Coach Layla first pitched this event to me, she claimed “maybe 8 or 9 riders will be there with a couple of coaches”… It’s a good thing all of the tools were still in the truck because the whole team, coaches and some parents joined! They moved tons of rocks and dirt before riding on to test the Fever Cat and Dog Itch upgrades.
