Trails Update: May 1, 2026
big old trees
Spies told me of fallen giants on a mostly snow-free cross country epic. “You’ll need your heftiest blade to clear this path…” We could see our breath as we set off that morn. 2 from the south on steeds and 2 from the north on foot. Why on foot? No rider could reasonably mount a steed wielding such a comically large sword! T’was a long day of slicing and dicing, fixing craters and trudging onward. We cleared the Numb route from the Yummies to Jeff(’s) from both sides. We suspect the old foreplay and lands of confusion may also be littered with winter’s fall, but the spies have yet to send a call. Our quest in the north is probably to be continued…
national volunteer week
I didn’t know this was a thing! Until now. But for WORCA: Every week is volunteer week! Our board members are always up to “something” and the trail crew is constantly setting up projects to share the trail building fun. This week we prepared an upgrade to Roost Corner Re Route (RCRR) to tackle with the Whistler Secondary School Outdoor Leadership Program students. The upgrade will actually lessen the grade on your way up… It was intense “phys.ed.” but with more mosquitoes! We’ll keep at this project next week with even more volunteers as the Whistler Waldorf School grade 9 class joins us. PLUS: This week’s Tuesday dig night volunteers put on the finishing touches on the redesigned Hot Dog Pass (now BLUE rated!). We had a few new members join us fresh from Austria, who were treated to the most Canadian digging après sighting: Beaver! Thanks to Forecast and Coast Mountain Brewing for supporting this event! Without skipping a beat, the trail crew got to work preparing 99’er for next week’s crew of volunteers. Chromag Bikes will sponsor the May 5th dig. Members can SIGN UP here!
See you on the Trails!
