Trails Update: July 3, 2026
Holiday Opportunity!
I took advantage of the odd, Wednesday STAT holiday to get outta town! I went to Sun Peaks for some berm “study“... leaving our trail crew with a long list of trail segments to brush cut. I’m surprised to see that they made it through it all… Westside (Sproatt) powerline bits and road connections including A River Runs Through It, Hot Dog Alley, Scotia Nova, Danimal(s). Plus a bunch more to do in Cheakamus… Runaway Train, Lower Yer Saddle, Garbage, JABT, Trash. They filled their (short) week by heading up to Sirloin/Darwin’s to give the climbing route a refresh before this week’s Chipmunk Toonie ride. I’m stoked and humbled by their repairs of some of my work from 2011!
All sorts of berries are ripening lower in the valley so keep an eye out for bears! A little higher up, wildflowers are starting to pop, but the alpine is still snowbound as you can see in this Trailforks report by RMOW Ranger Mitch Sulkers. The photo is from BELOW the ranger cabin! So please be patient… or head up to snow-free Sun Peaks for an uncrowded quick alpine fix.
GOLD STAR!
I’d like to send a special shout out to Tim Haggerty for all of the deadfall clearing he does in the Wedge zone and last week, he took his trail-care skills to a remote section of Comfortably Numb. Thanks again, Tim and Captain!
See you on the Trails!
