Trails Update: July 10, 2026
getting the fresh kit dirty!
The trail crew were hooked up with new outfits from Helly Hansen Workwear in coordination with their trail day on Marmot Mayhem. Toad Hall Studios tagged the gear and we got to stump pulling before the mob of volunteers joined us. There were plenty of new names for me to remember… a sign that the hype for this new trail is spreading! Benching trail is satisfying, but a hearty meal and Coast Mountain Brewing’s best suds also help to draw a crowd. This week exceeded everyone’s expectations for metres of new trail created, swag giveaways and dessert: the iconic Rim Rock Cafe delivered a full tray of sticky toffee pudding, volunteer digger Sue baked some homegrown Rhubarb treats and Helly Hansen provided gift bags for all attendees! But wait, there’s more! They also held a raffle for $1500 worth of HH gift cards! “What about metres of new trail?” you ask, the bridge we completed that afternoon connected 500 metres of new dirt swoops! The trail crew spent the rest of the week preparing the line for the next volunteer trail event: Members can join in on the digging fun on Wednesday July 29th for a special crankworx trail day!
dusty berm
Ben, Garbo and I were joined by coach Sandy Ward with three of the Líl’wat Ka-xléq-a (Lil’wat Rolling) youth mountain bike program riders for some pre-swim trailwork near Rainbow Park. They helped us enhance a turn on Hot Dog Pass. After I taught them how to “transfer” a pesky horsefly onto another person, we pulled some stumps, insloped the turn and loaded up a sizable berm. You’ll now be guided smoothly into the next “left” and beyond… Thanks Sandy, Ford, Pearson and Lukas! I have a feeling we’ll want to continue this treatment top to bottom after testing that turn!
dust up top!
As the pics support, we’re still a few weeks away from snowshoe free riding in the Sproatt alpine trails. The rangers are pampering Into the Mystic and planting snowstakes to follow once enough dirt is exposed and dry. Our trail crew will be heading into Upper Lord of The Squirrels this week to clear trees. Fingers crossed, the incoming heat wave should have us all rolling through the alpine soon. Make sure you check Trailforks before starting the adventure!
See you on the Trails!
