Trails Update: August 21, 2026

refreshing shift

I took the week off for my annual “corn run” to the Fraser Valley. Of course, it was an opportunity to ride a variety of zones as well. Lake dips and breweries sure helped after battling every type of stinger! It seems that everything is thorny when you get closer to sea level… The Blackberry vines destroyed my fancy wool jerseys and my shins are still numb from the stinging nettle. FVMBA trail crews have a tall task to tackle brushcutting such a jungle! The trails were less “slabby” than what we’re used to here, but they made up for that with berms, jumps and solitude. The current motorized recreation ban made it unusually silent in these popular motorsport zones. You’re probably wondering what were the highlight trails and beers from my trip? Total Sanity, Old Baldy, Dark Matter, Dolcita Eclipse Rakau, Front Porch, Harder Way, Root Cellar, Electric Lettuce and Fresh Kicks #2 were all great… You’ll just need to figure out what’s what!

Back in Whistler, on Lord Of The Squirrels, the WORCA crew also got a refreshing shift: from hard benching and rock stacking to bridge building. Tall Michal found an awesome log to split for decking so everyone got a break from clanking mattocks into rocks (for now). Mushrooms are fruiting so there must be (some) moisture in the ground, however, like our colleagues in the bike park, we’re praying for rain for any of our recent work to hold up.

See you on the Trails!
