Trails Update: April 17, 2026

The Seasonal switch

Ok, it almost feels like the 2025 biking season (in Whistler) never really ended. This was the third consecutive February that featured mostly snow free Cheakamus mountain biking. “Why didn’t the trail crew start work then?” Optimism (mostly). The promise of March Madness, sleeper pow days and nostalgia for the 1999 spring that just kept on giving (snow). Also: “winter” jobs. That’s all behind us now, so we’ve sharpened the saws and dusted off the pulaskis to kick off the 2026 trailwork season!

trail nights

Members can join us for some fun digging on Tuesday April 21! We’ll be redesigning Hot Dog Pass after last summer’s fire thinning buried some segments of trail. This trail event is sponsored by Peak Vending. Sign up and details are on this link! . Signing up is important so that we can plan an appropriate number of first aid attendants, tools, food (drinks!) and metres of trail to work on.

thank you!!!

It’s wonderful to start the season by acknowledging the tremendous work of all the keen sawyers who’ve cleared the majority of our already snow-free trails. They’re either riding with a handsaw or walking their dog with a chainsaw (dogs need special training to use a chainsaw btw)… they’ve effectively cleared countless trail blockades. I must also give a shout-out to the kind folks who report what they find across the network on trailforks. The photos help with prioritizing and planning what gear is needed. The best example(s) so far was for A Cut Above: David Rushbrook posted to Trailforks and Dave Felius emailed trailwork@worca.com so that we could prepare appropriately to deal with this tree safely. We secured the rootball before cutting and subsequently released it from its perch. Later in the week, after indulging in the 14cm rule, rootball holes were filled on It’s Business Time. Wedge trails are clear and the snow line was pretty much at the flank trail on the westside, (Green Monster elevation in Alpine) but Be Prepared for cold feet if you try to venture further up for another week or so…

See you on the Trails!
