Trails Update: September 12, 2025
welcome back!
Right on cue, with the kids returning to school, the WORCA volunteer trail building events are back on! I must say that it felt a little weird to leave so much unfinished work after the Crankworx Trail Day but summer is for riding. Fall is when we get digging!
Coast Mountain Trail Running hosted our return to sharing tools and good times. While we’re still waiting for the skies to open up, we again focused on de-duffing (removing the organic layer) and had to hold back from any attempts at shaping or finishing the trail given how dry the ground was. Nevertheless, the work was mysterious and important. “It’s just a bunch of huge rocks under the moss!” said young Brock. Yes it is…Yes it was! After removing countless rocks randomly arranged by the last earthquake or volcanic eruption/landslide/glacier… we began to re-organize them, framing our smooth new line. The trail crew, once again supported by honourary member and “large rock aficionado” Rob Mullen, spent the rest of the week building the crux of this project. Rob put his “sledge-adze” to work destroying some bedrock nubs on the approach, as we pulled and stacked a few tonnes of rock to create enough space for one smooth turn through the steep landscape.
As I mentioned earlier… we’re waiting for more damp conditions to shape and cap most of the Rock Rabbit Experience Elongation (the official name still in consultation). Fingers crossed for some fun finishing work next Sunday September 14th when Coastal Culture sponsors our next trail morning. Please sign up here!
bonus trail night!!!
We understand that some keen diggers are busy most weekends. Chores/soccer/brunch/revolution can really get in the way of your trail work fix, so evo has stepped up to support one last Tuesday Dig NIGHT on September 16th! The sun is setting early now so we’re heading to a “sprint” sized project: finishing the Green Jello connection to Beaver Pond. Join us by signing up here!
See you on the Trails!
