Trails Update: October 24, 2025

After a season which involved some seriously long commuting (by bike), the crew was pleased to stroll up to tools and get our boots dirty. While I attended the WORCA Board’s annual retreat (in Abbotsford this year), the crew retrieved our tools from the bottom of LOTS. Beyond debating President Dale about the popularity of RRTI (a common trope for us), I shared my plans for 2026, learned about every director’s mandate and how the Trails Department can best support them. And, of course we rode our bikes together! Meanwhile, the tools worked their way down from the Squirrels, thoroughly winterizing Chipmunk Rebellion, Industrial Waste and Rock Rabbit. Holes were patched up, drains were enhanced and a few berms were upgraded. We scraped a lot of black muck! I asked the Michals where they’d like to close out the season. “It would be nice to give AC/DC some love since it’s usually the first snow-free trail in the spring…” We armoured some holes and tweaked the line a little, replacing some jank with a new drop (or two). You may recall that we worked in the lower Sproatt zone already this season? I made sure to save some low elevation projects for this time of the year. There are still some spots to “patch up” on Middle Danimal (hopefully) before the snow flies!

Special shout out to the folks at Coastal Culture! Their friendly staff helped keep our fleet of work bikes in great condition despite my “always urgent” demeanor. Beyond fast and friendly service, the shop showed us their appreciation for trail builders by gifting the WORCA crew a fresh utility work pack! Perfect for hiking-in a full load of bridge decking. We’ll put it to good use!

See you on the Trails!
