Trails Update: October 16, 2026

loose ends

The Thanksgiving long weekend has signaled the start of the end for the trail crew. My winter job inbox is filling up with “reset password” reminders and that means we need to dot some i’s and cross some t’s before hitting send on another great season. So, after some rain, we put the plate compactor to work on Flashback. The final chunk of the off-camber bedrock was also “crushed”. We assembled a stack of wooden parts that had sat waiting on the edge of RCRR since June. And finally, we revisited the Lord of the Squirrels’ new exit for some touch ups, collect tools and make sure that no tasty fall treats were left to rot. That reminds me: There are still tickets available for this year’s Fungus Among Us festival!

It’s a huge privilege to do what we do, caring for our communities’ cherished trail network! We could not do it without the financial support from members, sponsors and the RMOW. We take the responsibility with pride and ambition. I want to “cheer” the volunteers who join us in the woods, and also those who provide leadership, vision and guidance from board and committee meetings. Thanks Dale, for your 10 years of service! Shout out to Trevor, Nicole, Ben and Laura who do so much behind the scenes to keep the trails program going and allow us to focus on what we love: mosquitoes, shovels and chainsaws.

I also want to express a profound thank you to our team members: Michal, Michal, Josh, Jacob, Vera and Reilly… You have pulled off some difficult projects and refined some of Whistler’s most popular trails. I love that you keep elevating the bar for what we can accomplish year after year! Riding all over our network fills me with pride at every turn.

See you on the trails!
