Trails Update: October 10, 2025

that’s a rock rabbit!

Last Sunday, Chromag and Coast Mountain Brewing welcomed volunteers for our last trail digging event of the season. At the start of our workday (7am) thick frost covered our stacks of decking. It made me realize the end (of the season) is near! While the “last” of anything can be happy or sad, everyone had their eye on the prize for the day… complete the “Danimal South All-DOWN Passing lane and Turnpike”! The weather cooperated, making for pleasant digging as volunteers filled all of the space left to bench-in the final connection. Extra volunteers jumped onto the dirt conga line, capping some elaborate rockwork. “It’s time for Octoberfest!” I proclaimed, ushering the volunteers to Ben and Sarah’s bavarian sausage party. The celebration culminated with Ben presenting the Golden Mattock to the Mayne Family for their near perfect attendance to this year’s dig nights (and mornings)! After the celebration, the trail crew climbed back up to fluff up the new connection. Re naturalizing our pits and re-mossing the fresh trail edge. Late in the day as I removed the trail closed sign, I heard a distinctive “PEEP!”. “That’s a Rock Rabbit!” I exclaimed. The cute little critter serendipitously named the bypass for us!

in other news

At the other end of town, The trail crew has reached the Sea to Sky trail on our Bring On The Weekend repairs. We supported the trail’s edge where riders were losing grip (and the trail…) and rounded out some slab exits. The original builders have tested and endorsed our work. We’ll be continuing down toward Green Lake after Thanksgiving.

Also… You may have noticed that some trail ratings have changed recently. We’ve upgraded a few segments of trails in the lower Sproatt zone from Blue to Black. Your legs were never lying to you… the grades on Lower Sproatt and Mid-Danimal were well beyond the maximum for Blue (in either direction). The new signage will better convey the experience for new users.

The Wildfire Thinning project around Whip Me, Snip Me and Lower Beaver Pass is done. The trails are rideable but barely recognizable. Beaver pass will require some minor repairs and/or a complete redesign… All of which are likely to occur next spring.

See you on the Trails!
