Trails Update: May 9, 2025
refreshed!
That’s how I feel after 2 weeks in the east! Following my Mom’s birthday surprise, I had a chance to revisit my mountain biking stomping grounds: The Gatineau Park. A lot has changed on those trails since off-road cycling was banned there circa 1995. There are now purpose built technical bike trails all over the park, plus a full offering of DH trails at Camp Fortune. More dedicated shops and new breweries have really elevated the Capital region mtb scene! Also the killer sunsets… Back in Whistler the WORCA trail crew was busy refreshing Piece of Cake and A La Mode. They broadened turns and smoothed ramps over roots to help keep your bike rolling. We’re heading towards Industrial Waste next for some similar work.
mega tuesday dig night!
I knew Seb (Santa Cruz Bikes Brand Manager) would bring a few extra friends to the dig night, but I was barely prepared for such a turnout - We ran out of “space” to safely spread out all of the volunteers along AM/PM’s new exit redesign! I scrambled for extra projects and assigned tasks to keep the highly motivated mob moving. I’ll need to lay out something bigger for next week. We’re back on AM/PM for the May 13 dig night.
Bonus Tuesday surprise: Tim Regan donated some fresh Shape Shifter Tools for the trail crew! Thanks! I can’t wait to test them out.
extra volunteer news
The Whistler Secondary School Outdoor Leadership Program (WSSOLP) students were back in Delineator this week. They managed to punch through the new line through difficult building terrain. They dug out deep rotten logs before filling the holes with rock. Shout out to Mr Kung and students! Hopefully for you, the mosquitoes are “slower” on the West Coast Trail… We’ll be returning to Delineator to complete this project in a few weeks with another volunteer crew.

Don’t forget to come out and see us tomorrow for our WORCA and RMOW Trails Open House. Come and speak to some of the WORCA team about your ideas for the future of Whistler's trail network and to provide feedback about our trail work.

When: Saturday, May 10, 12pm to 4pm
See you on the trails!
