Trails Update: June 19, 2026
IT GROWS!
The longest day of the year has snuck up on us and it’s literally summer already. I should have seen it coming, there were signs: Salmonberries are ripe, lizards are sunbathing and I managed to casually beat the sunset on an after work ride to singing creek. After spending a day cutting corridor and polishing the latest section of Marmot Mayhem, we started brush cutting at the far south end of the network: clearing the access to Southern Accent, which also got some fresh rockwork! It’s amazing how quickly the trailside bushes have grown in the last week, so we’ll be firing up the trimmers most mornings in the coming weeks. Please post reports to trailforks (include photos please!) about overgrown sections around the valley to help us prioritize our brush-cutting plans.
“Where do Baby Snakes come from?”
Following a perfect Back Forty race, we went back to our to-do list and ticked off this line item: “Improving access to Baby Snakes and the original Industrial Disease exit”. These trails are rather hard to get to: straight up the brutal 35% grade of Leftovers or ride down Working Class from the Flank. Baby Snakes is a Frank Zappa song title and the trail was built by Eric Barry (of Cheap Thrills fame) as an all-down exit for Pura Vida which used to end in a steep Hike-a-bike to finish Industrial Disease. After a debris flow event in 2018 washed away the bridge, we re-designed all of the trails in the area around the Industrial waste crossing. Baby Snakes and the re-named Industrial Society became hard to access, isolated short down trails. Until now! You can (re)discover these tech trails by climbing the dessert platter, and make a left half-way up Salted Caramel… Gummy Worms grow up to become Baby Snakes!
See you on the Trails!
