Trails Update: April 25, 2025
2 styles of bunny
I finished my snow season with a bang: playing dress-up and riding slushy park laps. This week I experienced a strange combination of snowboarding with the Easter Bunny followed by chasing a white rabbit down the Chipmunk Rebellion. Yes, you read that right! The Easter Bunny snowboards! Also, we can already access lower Chipmunk without getting your toes cold! The upper section of trail featured huge snow mounds on the bridges.
This rapid snowmelt is prompting the trail crew to begin trudging our tools up towards Lord of the Squirrels… We’re planning some renovations up there that will best be performed before the trail is released from winter slumber. We’ve started our way up with some blueifying (smoothing) on Piece of Cake. The trail will get some wider corners and improved ramps over large-step obstacles. Mid-Danimal and Industrial Waste will be next if we don’t get too distracted by unexpected “urgent work” elsewhere in the valley.
big saw
…“urgent work”… the big tree on the Far Out Traverse was a doozie! We finally got to use the comically large bar on our most powerful saw to safely deal with the rotund fallen giant. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that this tree caused the earthquake we felt last month - Its impact blasted quite a crater! With careful planning and precise cuts, the trail was cleared and we took the opportunity to rake about a km of the trail while heading out.
Michal discovered that another fallen tree had displaced the bridge on Butterflies and Rainbows (shifted by the heaved rootball) so that moved to the top of the priority list.
Keep those trailforks reports coming!
See you on the trails!
