Duties of the Directors

Jerome David - President

The President shall:

  • preside at all meetings of the Society and of the directors act as the chief executive officer of the Society
  • supervise the other officers in the execution of their duties
  • approve all media or public correspondence sent out by WORCA
  • uphold the mission statement of the Society
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • approve, oversee, and help maintain the budget set out by the Association

Katie Painchaud - Treasurer

The Treasurer shall:

  • along with two other Board Members, have signing authority on the Society bank accounts
  • be responsible for keeping financial records, including books of account necessary to comply with the Society Act, and rendering financial statements to the directors, members and others when required abide by the financial requirements set out in Part 4 - Financial sections 32-40 and Part 5 - Audit sections 41-55
  • if required, be responsible for disbursing all payments (cheques) to vendors, coaches, and WORCA Board Members
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Eric Walton - Director at Large

The Director at Large shall:

  • assist and support all board members and directors in their efforts to successfully execute the duties associated with their portfolios
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Steven Boorne - Director of Membership

The Director of Membership shall:

  • chair the Membership committee and ensure that all necessary paperwork and fee payment is complete
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Emily Mann - Director of Planning

The Director of Planning shall:

  • coordinate and chair the planning committee as required
  • act as chief liason between WORCA and municipal groups, provincial agencies, private enterprise and the public on matters relating to off road cycling in Whistler, Garibaldi Park, and the rest of the Sea to Sky corridor
  • act as WORCA's representative on local or regional planning committees as required
  • represent WORCA on all issues pertaining to trails such as:

i.      trail building and trail loss
ii.     trail right of ways
iii.    trail mapping
iv.    trail restoration
v.     trail inventories
vi.    trail use

  • abide by the Society's mission statement
  • abide by the planning committee's mission statement (see below)
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

The WORCA Planning Committee's mandate, as a conceptual body, is to ensure that the long-term viability of off-road cycling is maintained in Whistler, through proactive involvement in cycling and cycling related issues. The committee's main purpose is to:

  • develop long-term goals for the Association
  • unify the portfolios of the board of Directors
  • set plans beyond the current year
  • act as a liaison with various community interest groups and local authorities

Louise MacDougall - Director of Public Relations

The Director of Public Relations shall:

  • promote the purposes of the Society in the community at large
  • promote the broad mission of the Society
  • promote environmental stewardship, youth and family membership
  • direct the production and distribution of a newsletter
  • distribute a newsletter to the membership at least twice annually
  • maintain and keep current the Society website
  • serve on various community committees where possible
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Nina Arnold - Director of of XC/Toonies

The Director of  XC/Toonies shall:

  • ensure that all races/rides conducted under the WORCA club insurance are:

i.    conducted by a WORCA member in good standing
ii.    in accordance with the rules set out in the race manual and WORCA’s Rules of the Trail
iii.    concerned primarily with safety
iv.    in support of the WORCA mission statement and its objectives
v.    in accordance with all requirements set out by the Resort Municipality of Whistler or any other governing body presiding over the race course site

  • organize a race organizer’s meeting in the February prior to the Toonie Ride season
  • oversee the creation of a Toonie Ride calendar
  • contact each event organizer at least one week prior to their event ensuring each organizer has all necessary equipment (i.e. signage, information, etc.) to put on a successful Toonie Ride
  • sit on the Risk Management Committee
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society, and
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Clark Lewis - Director of Downhill/Special Events

The Director of Downhill/Special Events shall:

  • ensure that all races/rides conducted under the WORCA club insurance are:

i.    conducted by a WORCA member in good standing
ii.    in accordance with the rules set out in the race manual and WORCA’s Rules of the Trail
iii.    concerned primarily with safety
iv.    in accordance with all requirements set out by the Resort Municipality of Whistler or any other governing body presiding over the race course site

  • work with the Whistler Mountain Bike Park to organize the weekly Phat Wednesday races
  • organize and coordinate any special race or event sanctioned by WORCA
  • sit on the Risk Management Committee

Mandy Rousseau - Director of Skills Development

The Director of Skills Development shall:

  • promote cycling at all levels and ages by organizing evening skills clinics
  • work with the Director of Youth to organize youth clinics and youth Toonie Rides
  • support The Whistler Bike Co. in their Monday Night Ride program
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Tim Andrews - Director of Trail

The Director of Trails shall:

  • chair the Trails Committee
  • be responsible for creating and implementing an annual trail program schedule
  • organize, and participate in a yearly trail maintenance program
  • hire contracted trail builders and coordinate volunteers
  • be responsible for the communication of trail issues to the Board of Directors
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Craig Mackenzie - Director of Youth

The Director of Youth shall:

  • chair the Youth Committee and create and implement a program for all members of WORCA 18 years and under:
  •  Liaison with the Dirt Camp coaches to ensure the successful facilitation of the Dirt Camps
  • Assist in the hiring of the Dirt Camp coaches
  • Order and maintain any supplies required for the Dirt Camps
  • Organize the rental of the Spruce Grove practice area for the Dirt Camps with the Outdoor Facility Coordinator from the RMOW
  • Organize and facilitate the youth Toonie Rides with a representative from the RMOW Community Life Department
  • Organize the Spirit of Lumpy award and presentation to one WORCA member 18 years and under
  • Assist with the annual Bike Swap
  • Represent all issues pertaining to youth to the Board of Directors and advise the Board with respect to such issues
  • assist other directors when necessary
  • help with fund-raising for the Society
  • maintain the budget set out by the Association

Hilary Hendriks - Director of Fundraising

The Director of Fundraising shall:

  • organize and run the annual Bike Swap
  • research and apply for grants
  • lead the fund-raising for the Society
