$150,000 Grant from Whistler Blackcomb Foundation for WORCA’s new home!
The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation has granted $150,000 to the Passive House project for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
It was a natural fit for the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation to come on board with the Passive House initiative, as this energy conserving building, will be handed over to the Resort Municipality of Whistler (RMOW) for use by the Whistler Nordics and WORCA after it has been used as Austria House for the 2010 Winter Olympics. “The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation is proud to be a partner in the Passive House project. The fact that the building will be a community operated facility post-Games makes the Austria House an amazing legacy for Whistler”, said Mei McCurdy, Executive Director of the Whistler Blackcomb Foundation.
This contribution is paramount to the completion of the House, which will be Austria House for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. This is a tremendous help towards the completion of the Passive House.
This type of environmentally friendly building ties into Whistler’s sustainability plan, and will be a marvelous asset to be enjoyed by future generations of Whistler residents and visitors. The Whistler Blackcomb Foundation, which was created in 1992, strives to support community projects and local registered charities that enrich the lives of people residing in the Sea to Sky Corridor.
The Passive House is built by the APG, which consists of three Austrian builders, each specialized in a specific passive house construction technique, which will donate the house to Whistler after the Games. Three components of the Passive House were built in Austria and are now on their way to Whistler by ship and train and should arrive by the end of August.
