WORCA Jerseys Now Available!

dirtWell it’s been a long time coming but WORCA now has our own awesome jerseys for sale!

We’re really pleased with how the Jerseys turned out.   Sombrio have supplied the jerseys as part of thier Canvas Program.  They are standard Sombrio cut and have been tested at the GearJammer with a thumbs up rating for breathability.  The shirts are available in shortsleeve and 3/4 length versions and are grey, some special edition red, and black versions up for grabs at special events.  The cost will be $45 for the short sleeve and $50 for the 3/4 length.

The design on the shirts was created by Andrew Mitchell who was one of five who submitted a design for our logo contest.  All of our entries were great but we liked the simplicity and message of Andrew’s graphic celebrating 20 Years of Dirt!  Way to go Andrew.

You may have seen our esteemed President, Todd, sporting one of these special Jerseys at recent events.  We have a limited number to sell so make sure you are ready to get yours as soon as they become available.  Look for us at WORCA events and make sure you have some cash (sales will be cash only)!

Toonie Rides…

A perspective from the gang at Cycle Component Network:

“Worca, Worca, Worca” was the catch phrase of Fozzie Bear from the Muppets, however to Whistler locals, the word ‘WORCA’ means something else. It is the name of the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA).

Founded in 1989, WORCA has evolved over the last 15 years to become an integral part of the Whistler community. Today it has an eleven-member board of directors that represents and serves a community of more than 1,000 members.

Every week for 20 weeks, WORCA hosts Thursday night Toonie Rides with the sponsorship of local businesses and organizations. The midweek races used to be called ‘Loonie’ races because each racer put $1 into a pot and the winner got to take home the pot. Nowadays however, things are more organised with the race entry costing $2 (hence the name ‘Toonie’)… Read the full article here.

Trips for Kids Donations

As you are all aware, last week’s Slopeside Supply & Samurai Sushi Toonie Ride was a fundraiser for Trips for Kids, a Vancouver charity that organizes bike trips for underprivileged kids.

With Slopeside Supply and Samurai Sushi generously donating the funds that would have been spent on an après, with a portion of the Four Jacks registration fees put aside as a contribution, and with the extra bucks thrown in the pot by last week’s riders riders, the event raised $1900!

Thanks to everyone for your support!

Jack & Jill of all Trades: Matt Ryan & Sylvie Allen!

Four Jacks Overall Winners: Matt Ryan & Sylvie Allen Congratulations to Matt Ryan & Sylvie Allen, top riders in this year’s Four Jacks!

Final results and overall standings are now posted.

Ode to Stage Four:

Jacks and JillsJacks and Jills, calling all Jacks and Jills,
you’ve all made it this far, through the gnar of the hills,
you’ve conquered Cheap Thrills and survived Garbo spills,
but you are not finished yet, not yet Jacks and Jills.

You’ve spanked the Flank and triple backed the Westside,
you’ve ridden the Garbo chair, wasn’t that a nervous ride?
you’ve bled, you’ve sweated, you’ve sworn never again!
but Jacks and Jills you are nowhere near the end.

This is Jack the Ripper, need I say more?
the most gruesome of the Jacks, with jagged rocks galore,
Jack the Ripper is out in this zone of no flow,
and he is watching you ride, so mind how you go.

If you bobble and botch or mishap on a crux,
your ranking may change and that really sucks!
so Jacks and Jills just mind how you go,
watch for Jack the Ripper and get into the flow!

- Julian Hine

In conjunction with the Phat Wednesday there will be 3 of these new PhaSt Wednesdays added to the summer line up. Each race will feature a more technical track than the usual Phat Wednesday courses.

July 1 Race Results

Not fearing the more difficult terrain of Shleyer and Detroit Rock City, over 130 racers turned out to celebrate Canada Day with a race and a great after party at the GLC with a nice cold Kokanee and the band Whole Lotta Led. The great weather (in contrast to last weeks downpour and mud) brought out some of Whistler’s best riders. The technical track caused a few crashes and some flat tires but holding it together with the fastest time of the day was Tyler Morland with a time of 2:45.3.
